Pastors Tom and Elizabeth Gutierrez are founding pastors of Viento Fuerte Church, formerly Viento Fuerte Centro de Adoracion. While pastoring and establishing Viento Fuerte together with his wife in September 2003 then beginning full time ministry in 2004, he and Elizabeth raised 5 wonderful children and currently enjoy spending time with their 14 beautiful grandchildren.
Pastor Tom, born and raised in Waco, has worked in lay duty since his teens in his grandfather’s church as a musician and teacher. His desire to help and work in the church was so rewarding that it made the way for him to grow and expand his knowledge in other areas such as drama director, music director and children's pastor.
Pastor Elizabeth, born in Campeche Mexico, has various degrees including one in Child Development. Working as a social worker within the Waco public schools and later gaining ministry education at Truett Seminary, Pastor Elizabeth has a strong passion for evangelism to reach everyone from children to adults and enjoys training teachers for the ministry.
Their willingness to serve, all the years of experience and hands on practice with a heart full of love for God and the community is what is making the way for Viento Fuerte to grow and make an impact in this city.
Viente Fuerte History
Viento Fuerte Church began as “VIento Fuerte Centro de Adoracion” in September 2003 as a full Spanish ministry in collaboration and within Mighty Wind Worship Center where pastors Tom and Elizabeth were one of the five founding families. Having served there in various areas of ministry such as music, teaching youth, pastoring children and teaching seniors, their destiny in God became obvious. So, with full trust in God they accepted the call to pastor and establish VIento Fuerte.
In 2007 Viento Fuerte moved out and installed the church in Hewitt where the ministry grew. After 4 years at a store front location and to make room for growth, Viento Fuerte moved in to Kendrick Lane Baptist Church to share the facility that they so graciously offered as a blessing. It was then that in 2014 God moved upon the hearts of the leadership to become bilingual to meet the needs of the surrounding community.
In 2015 North Waco Baptist Church was facing a very important decision that could impact its neighborhood. So, instead of shutting its historic doors they made the decision to bless and award their entire church facility to Viento Fuerte Church which has since gone through a transformation and makeover.
Viento Fuerte is made up of first generation to 4th and 5th generation Hispanics that include Nicaraguans, Ecuadorians, Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Colombians and Tejanos. Today Viento Fuerte is working diligently in its neighborhood and reaching out to the community through: events, home groups, dynamic and awesome Praise and Worship, and by preaching God's word that is relevant to today's needs. With the vision to Love God and love people, Viento Fuerte is out to change lives, connect hearts and honor God.
